It's Self-Care o'Clock!

Updated: Feb 26

Have you checked in with yourself yet today?

How many times a day do you check in with yourself to see how you're feeling?

Taking the time throughout the day to check in and see if you're holding tension anywhere in your body or if you could use some time to recentre and lift your vibe is a great way to incorporate self-care into your day - and it will keep you relaxed, refreshed and energised throughout your day.

Tension in your body

Our days can often be stressful, more than we'd like sometimes and if we don't take the time to release any stress or tension in our body's we can find ourselves suffering from tension headaches, stiff neck and shoulders or worse.

Take a moment to check if you're holding onto any tension in your body. Sit comfortably, or stand, close your eyes and allow your shoulders to drop. Mentally go through every part of your body noticing if there is any part that feels tight or sore.

If you notice any tension visualise this area being flooded with a golden white light for a few moments, or until you feel relaxed in this area.

Once you've 'scanned' your whole body, get up and shake it all out - if you're at work you can encourage your colleagues to join you for a moment of release. Shake out your arms, your neck and head, your upper body, hips and down your legs. Notice how much lighter you feel afterwards.

This process only takes a couple of minutes and can do so much good in releasing any unwanted stress or tension from your body.

Mental Stress and Tension

Another important part of your self-care check in is your mental state. Are you centred and focused or is your mind preoccupied with other issues?

If you feel the need to, take a couple of moments for yourself - outside if you can - and close your eyes , bringing your focus to the tip of your nose.

Take 3 deep breaths and sigh them out, more if you feel to. As you breath out feel all the stress and tension leaving your body, your mind clearing as you bring yourself back to the present moment - feeling yourself coming back to Your Self.

The beauty of breathing is that we are all doing it, all of the time. Simply bringing your focus to your breathing - even if you can't close your eyes at the time - is the most effective way of calming those thoughts in your head and bringing you back to the present moment, where fear and worries can not exist.

Lift your mood with Gratitude

Are you feeling a bit down, overwhelmed, sad or simply a bit lost when you check in with yourself?

The easiest, most effective way of lifting our mood is by practising Gratitude. Simply state between three and ten things you are grateful for in your life. This could be anything from the roof over your head and the clothes on your back to your wonderful, supportive partner and friends.

If you can make the statements "I Am grateful for..." aloud then do so, if not then mentally is just as effective.

Practise Gratitude on a regular basis and you'll find that it's near enough impossible to remain in a negative state of mind once you realise how many blessings you have in your life already.

Change your focus

Boredom can play a big part in our day if we are doing repetitive work, and in any work it can be easy to get distracted or stop fully paying attention to what we are doing.

If you find yourself losing focus then change your focus. Get up and go for a walk around your office, or house - outside if you can. A five minute change of scenery can do wonders for your inspiration, creativity and productiveness.

Make checking in with yourself a regular part of your day and improve your wellbeing on every level, leaving you refreshed, energised and always ready to face whatever the day brings for you.
