The experiences we face in life, no matter how difficult, are ones we’ve chosen on a soul level.
This is one of the earliest lessons I learnt when I started out on my spiritual journey over 25 years ago. Accepting this as Truth transformed the way I view my past and how I navigate my present, and it can do the same for you.
Allow me to explain. We all have a soul family, those with whom we share many, many lifetimes together. Before we incarnate we meet with our soul family to decide on the relationships we will share and the lessons and experiences we need to live through to help our soul evolve and grow in that particular lifetime.
This includes even the hardest, most heartbreaking moments - especially those, as it is through them that we grow the most. As challenging as it might be to accept, these experiences are part of the path we’ve chosen for our own growth.

Once you fully integrate this knowledge into your heart everything changes! You begin to see all of your past experiences as essential parts of your soul’s journey and to appreciate them as such.
Forgiveness
It becomes easier to forgive others, knowing they are also on their own path of evolution with their own lessons to learn.
You can also forgive yourself for moments where you may have caused harm, understanding that those times were necessary for both your growth and the growth of those involved.
With this understanding you stop holding others responsible for the challenges you face. Instead, you acknowledge that you, on a deeper level, have chosen these experiences for your own evolution.
You also learn to take responsibility for the consequences of your own words or actions, which helps you to live in a kinder, more compassionate and understanding way.
This all brings a sense of acceptance, grace, and gratitude to every moment, even the ones that seem impossible to get through at the time.
Embrace Gratitude for your past experiences…for they are your greatest gifts.
Take some time to think about all of the experiences where you are holding onto resentment, anger, heartache or fearful emotions:
How can you now look at that differently and accept how it helped you become who you are today?
Who do you still need to forgive for helping you grow through the pain, knowing as you do now that it was all for your highest good?
Where do you need to forgive yourself for causing pain to others? To yourself?
What lessons have your learned through your most painful experiences?
By embracing this perspective we can honour our journey and transform the way we see both our past and our present. Rather than resisting or resenting our experiences, and the people involved in them, we can approach them with gratitude, knowing they are all essential steps in our soul’s evolution. Through this understanding we heal, we grow and we continue to evolve with acceptance and grace.
Don't forget the joyful moments!
It’s also important to remember that the joyful and happiest moments have their own lessons to offer too. We often overlook how much we grow from the positive experiences in life.
Those moments of happiness, love, success, and fulfilment are also essential for our soul's evolution. They teach us the value of connection, the importance of gratitude, and the beauty of being present.
Think back to the most joyful times in your life:
What lessons have those experiences taught you about love, friendship, or self-worth?
How have moments of joy deepened your sense of gratitude or appreciation for life?
What strengths did you discover in yourself when things were going well, and how can you carry those forward?
How can you invite more joy into your life, knowing that it too contributes to your growth?
The next time you find yourself in either a difficult or joyful situation try to remember:
This is part of the journey you’ve chosen. Accept it with love and gratitude, and look for the lessons you are offering yourself. In doing so, you’ll find peace, and you’ll continue to grow and evolve in ways you never thought possible - I know, because I did, and continue to do so!
